When we drove the all-new 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X we loved how capable it was when the road ran out. Now, the folks at Overland Expo 2022 have decided to make it the foundation of their ultimate overland vehicle on display at the expo taking place between July 8th and July 10th later this year. We can’t think of a better way to get way off of the grid.

The AT4X is already the most comfortable way to go off-road thanks to excellent Multimatic DSSV dampers and luxury features like massaging seats. The modifications that Overland Expo focused on really just extend this truck’s ability to enjoy long trips without having to return to civilization.

The most notable modification is a new flat tray with an accompanying canopy box in place of the old pickup bed. It’s built by the Australian-based MITS Alloy North America and has more features than its modest appearance might suggest.

The canopy box itself actually has a damper system to isolate vibration and flexing that might affect the tray itself. An eight-gallon water tank with an external tap is also included and inside the canopy box, you’ll find a complete electrical box.

It gets power from a solar panel affixed to the top of the canopy and is managed by a REDARC RedVision Manager30. A CRX 110 fridge draws power to keep food and other items cool while on the trail.

17-inch wheels from ICON are wrapped with 33-inch Firestone Destination M/T2 rubber. After a long day out on the trail, those tires can be aired up with an onboard compressor which also controls the air springs mounted to the rear axle.

No modifications to the powertrain of the Sierra AT4X have been completed but an optional MagnaFlow cat-back exhaust has been added which should provide better flow and a bit more noise. Still, this is one incredibly competitive package and it’s going up for sale later this year.

At the end of the show season, Overland organizers say that this very truck will go up for auction. All of the proceeds will go to the Overland Expo Foundation charity.
