Toyota Proace is embracing outdoor activities with two models, which will become very cool base camps. Toyota displayed some models of campervans at the 2021 Caravaning Expo in Barcelona, Spain, which ended last Sunday.

These Proace campers are modern vans, but in reality they are just improvisations that formula enthusiasts have been looking for for decades. They paired the diesel powertrain with a manual gearbox. Of course, I mean foreign enthusiasts, because Proace (in any form) is not sold in the US market.

The driver can choose a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine or a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder diesel engine. Then buyers can choose a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission. But there is no four-wheel drive. These are only 2WD. This limits the distance that vans can cross-country, but it should not limit their appeal.

The trucks start from Proace Verso or Proace City and are modified by Spanish clothing manufacturer Tinkervan. They become what Toyota calls Proace Verso Camper and Proace City Mini Camper.

Tinkervan replaced the original roof with a roof tent built into the standard Proace Verso body and added an awning. Tinkervan also added rotating seats, a 40-liter refrigerator, and even a modular kitchen with sink and a single stove burner.

The tank is equipped with a 12V water pump and a water exchange system. There is also a propane tank with its own compartment.

Proace City does not have an entire kitchen sink, but it can still accommodate up to four people, two in the roof tent and two in the cabin on the modular bed. The owner of Proace City must use a ladder to reach the tent from outside.

Proace City is a much smaller camper than Proace Verso, but the city can still be a fairly comfortable base camp. It even has a 30-liter refrigerator and a basic water supply system.

Although the conversion comes from a third party, people in Spain can buy these products from Toyota. Proace City Mini Camper starts at 27,547 Euros, which is approximately AU$42,685, while Proace Verso Camper starts at 39,699 Euros, which is approximately AU$56,824.
