The sharp drop in the price of lithium-ion batteries in the past decade is critical to making zero-emission electric vehicles more affordable and opens the door to new portable power stations.

Since 2016, EcoFlow has been designing and building portable power stations and sent us their smallest portable device EcoFlow River Mini Wireless to run it. River measures 9.8" x 5.5" x 5.2" and weighs a little over 6 pounds. It is a compact device, almost no larger than a small stack of paperback books. In this compact package, River stores 210 watt-hours of capacity, and These powers can be output to a pair of AC power sockets with a power of 300 watts, with a surge power of up to 600 watts.

Disclaimer: EcoFlow provided the author with the river free of charge for this review.

In practical applications, River is unique in that its high power output capability is combined with useful storage capacity, making it the best choice for a wide range of applications in the market. This is especially true when electric heating is used. For example, EcoFlow River can power a small kettle or even a small coffee maker. My 300-watt single-cup water heater has enough power to use, but it can only run once or more than twice per charge.

For EcoFlow River Mini Wireless, more mundane tasks such as mobile phones, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones are trivial. These usually pull less than 100 watts, and most live at the very low end of the range. For example, the power consumption of my travel tablet in fast charging mode is about 15 watts, while the power consumption of my smartphone is about 5 watts.

As the name suggests, River Mini Wireless also has an integrated "rooftop" wireless Qi charger for smartphones. The charger is located on the top, which makes it easier to place the phone on the top without slipping off. This is a convenient feature that not only adds wireless capabilities to the device, but also means fewer cables you carry with you. This is huge for portable power systems.

EcoFlow River Mini Wireless provides powerful power for this small device. It can be charged not only from a standard wall outlet, but also from a single 100-watt solar panel with 11-39V and 8 amps. Using a 100-watt solar panel, EcoFlow River Mini Wireless should be fully charged within 3-6 hours. It comes with a charging panel with a cover, which makes it easy to plug the cable into the wall. Surprisingly, it does not require a charging brick. It is a straight cable that is plugged in directly.

The ability to charge from solar panels makes it an option for expanding off-grid situations. Camping for a week? Bring the fully charged EcoFlow River Mini Wireless and solar panels, and you are ready to go. It is worth testing all your equipment before any such trip to ensure that the solar panel charging works as expected and generates enough power for all of your equipment. Supporters of EcoFlow even stated that one of their 160-watt solar panels can be used with the system to fully charge in 1-2 hours.

It is also worth confirming that River will charge your device. I don't want any problems with low-power and USB devices, but for more professional or higher-power devices, they may have some fashionable behavior that may prevent them from pulling power. Refrigerators, compressors and other electrical appliances usually use non-standard power startup curves. It's better to be safe than regret.

For people looking for more storage capacity, EcoFlow offers a series of larger packages with a large number of outstanding features in the River and Delta product lines. For more information about EcoFlow River or to buy one for yourself, please visit its official website.
