The 1994 SLK concept car was more aggressive than the 96 production car
This is the 1994 Mercedes-Benz SLK concept car, which was unveiled at the Turin Auto Show. It used to be a prestigious biennale. The original SLK concept didn’t have the most functions like a concept car. The 1989 R129 Mercedes SL was equipped with the company's first detachable hardtop, but the SLK took it to the next level, setting off a wave of innovative folding features in more affordable cars. In fact, the SLK I concept car does not have a roof at all, it is just to showcase Mercedes' upcoming small convertible.
The glossy red interior may be reminiscent of the golden age of the 1950s, but it also unequivocally reminds people that this world is not far from the forgotten 1980s. However, this is a sculpted, minimalist interior — a far cry from the fake walnut wood and endless gray plastic that the production car eventually adopted.
The production car was finally based on the W202 C-class sedan, with a big cut in the middle, but the concept car was customized for the 1994 Turin Auto Show. The car manufacturer tried to create some buzz around the clay model with the alloy wheels stuck to it. Under the hood is what Mercedes calls an "advanced" 4-cylinder gasoline engine that drives the rear wheels, but frankly, this doesn't make your heart beat faster.
Sadly, in the next 30 years, the SLK concept is nothing particularly crazy at all-it is an engineering safety study with a thick windshield, extensively designed passive safety units, full-size airbags, and novelty Additional features (at the time of ABS).
Maybe not, but it doesn't seem to prevent the success of this car-more than 308,000 of them were manufactured between 1996 and the beginning of 2004 when it was discontinued. The strange thing is that the front end of this concept car looks more like the 2010 SLS supercar than the SL at the time, and it may have the 1997 CLK on the square hip. The production version of SLK (code-named R170) has a more elegant and rounded appearance, and it can be said that it better replicates the appearance of the R129 SL...but it doesn't look as interesting as a concept car.
