Cleveland-Northern Ohio is no stranger to severe weather. Whether it is a severe thunderstorm or a major winter weather event, we can see it all. One of the biggest and most common effects of bad weather for you and me is the terrible blackout.

Whether your power is interrupted for minutes, hours or even days, power outages may cause inconvenience and even danger to many people. Today’s gale reminds us that a few simple steps can help us weather the storm more effectively.

Here are some quick tips on how to prepare for power outages that may be related to the weather:

1) Charge your electronic device. With the power still on, plug in these laptops, iPads, and mobile phones.

2) Find the flashlight. No one likes to bump into things in a dark home. Test your flashlight now and take it with you.

3) Are there batteries? The flashlight is useless without a new battery. do you have?

4) Inedible food. For many people in our all-electric households, stoves or microwave ovens cannot work without electricity. Prepare some fresh bagged snacks in the storage room. Some canned foods that do not need to be heated are also a good place to go when you are hungry. Oops, who doesn't like good peanut butter and jelly sandwiches? Do you have bread?

5) If it is not necessary, please do not open the refrigerator or freezer. Keep the air-conditioning inside these appliances. Don't open the door! Oops, if you are worried about food spoiling in a warm refrigerator, put milk and juice in a sturdy plastic cooler and put it outside... It's winter, and the temperature tonight will drop to more than 20 years old And 30s. That will keep it cold!

6) Is there water? For those rural residents who have well water... you need electricity to pump water into the house. Prepare one or two gallons in advance for drinking and flossing. Fill the bathtub so that you can rinse it off. It sounds crazy, but water is a commodity that has been out of power for a long time.

7) Refuel the car. The air pump also runs on electricity. No power? Then he lost his breath.

8) Other items: first aid kit, car phone charger, candles, matches, battery-powered radio, hand sanitizer, warm blankets for cold winter nights and cash! It is hoped that any power outages caused by today's wind incident will not last long. However, it is better to be safe than regret!
