ERCOT again calls on Texans to reduce power use Wednesday

TEXAS — For the second time this week, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas is calling for people to reduce their electricity use as temperatures soar.

Specifically, ERCOT is asking people to conserve electricity between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday. It stressed that no system-wide outages are expected.

The agency, which oversees the Texas power grid, made the same plea on Monday. No rolling blackouts took place that day, but energy reserves were low.

ERCOT attributed low energy reserves to record demand amid the heat wave, low wind limiting generation, forced thermal outages and cloud cover in West Texas limiting solar generation.

All electric customers are encouraged to visit the Public Utility Commission’s (PUC) Power to Save or their electric provider’s website to learn more and get information on conservation tips.
