A recent report from U.S. News & World Report ranked the top 35 best "glamping" spots in the U.S. and two locations in Texas made this list. This includes glamping sites in Marfa and Wimberly. But first, what's glamping?
Essentially, glamping is camping but not the traditional bare-bones approach with scant amenities. The overall glamping experience is similar to camping but comparatively more glamorous, hence the term "glamping." Similar to most glamping locations across the U.S., the two Texas sites offer a variety of accommodations to take the camping experience to the next level with more features to boost the rest and relaxation with plenty of glam to boot.
In Texas, El Cosmico in Marfa and Sinya on Lone Man Creek in Wimberley were the glamping locations to make the top 35.
The El Cosmico is located just outside the city limits of Marfa and is within walking distance of the town’s popular tourist attractions, including the Chinati Foundation, art galleries, shops and restaurants. The 21-acre camping resort offers restored vintage trailers equipped with private kitchens, mini bars, baths and air-conditioning and heating units.
In addition, the El Cosmico offers Bushtec tents equipped with vintage soaking tubs, private outdoor showers, electricity and air-conditioning. Yurt camping is also available year-round with heat and air-conditioning within the units.
The site also features the Cosmic Kasita, a 325-square foot micro-home equipped with a kitchenette, basic cooking supplies, baths and air-conditioning and heat. The area also offers campsite rentals with access to a communal bathhouse and kitchen.
The West Texas retreat is pet friendly, offers a branded retail boutique, dutch wood-fired hot tubs and a communal outdoor kitchen fully equipped with a grill, refrigerator, cookware and utensils. The site also offers bicycle rentals and complimentary Wi-Fi in the lounge.
